You may already know about chakras within our body. You know how it affects our mood and health. But it’s not an easy thing to grasp.

The seven primary chakras need some dedicated study. All of it, starts with the base chakra – the root chakra or Muladhara.

The base

The color of the root chakra is red. What comes to your mind when you come across the color red? Blood, passion and health are some ideas signified by it. The Red Chakra deals with our base desires. It’s a grounding color and shows our relation with Earth. That’s why it sits at the bottom-end of the spine.

Does that mean it’s not as useful?

All primary chakras are important. The Chakra System rests with the Red Chakra – its base. A glow of red is a sign of health. A muddy red indicates the red chakra may be blocked, and vivid red shows it can be overactive. These may bring problems, we wouldn’t want to be in.

Pessimism: Nobody wants to feel left out. Imbalances in the red chakra may make you feel like nothing’s going to go right with you.

Disorders Related to Eating: Nutrition is a basic need. It’s controlled by the Root Chakra. Disorders like bulimia or anorexia are caused by imbalances in this chakra.

Greed: An overactive red chakra may make you gorge on food because you’ll feel like it’s not going to stay for you. This may actually come from an anxiety of loss.

Fear – Of course, fear is a basic survival instinct. Excess fear or anxiety is caused by the Root Chakra.

Insecurity – The feeling that anything can go wrong can be traced to the Red Chakra.

You can understand now that the root chakra is extremely important for the basic functioning of our lives. It should not be ignored.

So what to do about it?

The Root Chakra should be grounded. There’s a reason why the root chakra is at the end of the spine and comes in direct contact with the ground when we meditate. It absorbs the energy of the Earth.

Balancing the root chakra is important. We can do that through regular meditation. Concentrate on your fears and anxieties and try to get rid of them. Nothing has taken you down yet, and if the chakras are with you, nothing could. For an extra boost, you can use red crystals. Ruby, fire opal and garnet can help.

Let’s concentrate on the base. Often the Red chakra is ignored for the higher ones. But you can see how basic lifestyles can be affected by it. We don’t want that in our wholesome, spiritual journey.
